Benefits and Uses of Green Tea

I have spent the past few years trying different teas, with the hope of expanding my drink options. I do not normally drink soda, and as much as I love good coffee, I limit my consumption to a couple days a week. Tea drinking is not only a fascinating art, but a strong source of antioxidants and healing properties. While I enjoy white tea and flowering teas, I always favor green tea. It has a subtle flavor which can be sipped by itself, or it can be enhanced with other ingredients. Below are a few of my favorites:

  • Hot with honey and raw cain sugar (great for sore throats!)
  • Iced and sweetened with agave nectar
  • Brewed and blended into a smoothie (useful if you are not a tea drinker)

The benefits of green tea go beyond consumption! Bags soaked in hot water can be set aside to cool then applied to bug bites and blemishes to reduce pain and inflammation. After brewing your cup of tea, freeze the bags and reuse under you eyes to reduce puffiness. Last but not least, treat your sore muscles or achy joints to a “tea bath” by following the steps below.

  • 2 green tea bags
  • 2 peppermint tea bags
  • 1 tbsp of your favorite body wash

Directions: begin filling bath with warm water. Add in shower gel. once bath is full, place all four tea bags in to soak for two minutes. Remove bags, and sink into the water. (P.s. – Don’t be afraid to sink all the way in…green tea conditions hair, and encourages new growth!)
